About Becky Pliego

I am grateful because God, in His grace, called me out of darkness and into his admirable light. When I did not look for Him, He found me. When I was in a pit of sin, He rescued me. I am not walking this road alone, my family is always with me, and we love Him, because He loved us first.

>Giving Grace to Difficult Children

>

Annie Pliego Photography

This Thursday of Borrowed words I want to share with you a quote from a book I am now reading, Give Them Grace; Dazzling Your Kids With the Love of Jesus by Fitzpatrick and Thompson. I have read many books on parenting, but I think this is the first time I encounter an encouragement like this for parents whose children are not walking in the ways of the Lord, whose children are “difficult children”. (As soon as I finish reading this book I will share with you my review).

“We think that compliant children will best teach us about his grace and the gospel, and they can. Compliant, believing children are frequently reflections of his great kindness. But the Lord also teaches us of his grace and the gospel through difficult children. We learn what it is like to love like he loved. We learn how to walk in his footsteps, and it is there, in our personal “upper room,” where we learn how to wash the feet of those who are betraying us. It is there, kneeling before our rebellious children, that the real power of God is demonstrated. The compliant child’s life lies to us, assuring us that she is good because we’re such good parents. Difficult children tell us the truth: God loves his enemies, and he can infuse us with grace that will make us lay down our lives for them too. Their rebellion is a verification of the gospel: we produce sinful children because we are sinners, but God loves sinners. God’s power is displayed through our failures when we tether ourselves to the gospel message of sin and forgiveness, no matter how desperate the situation becomes.”

Let us remember in prayer today those families whose children are walking astray. Let us not look at them with a prideful and judgmental eye. Let us have compassion for them and a heart that reaches to them through prayer.

Let us not forget, not  even for a second, that if our children are walking in the Lord it is because of His Amazing Grace, not because of our abilities as parents, or our methods; it is in spite of us, in spite of our sinfulness, in spite of our shortcomings, in spite of our wrong and selfish motives, that they are where they are now.

Under His sun and by His grace,

Becky

>From Christina’s Kitchen to Yours – Amaretto Cake –

>Today my dear friend Christina Lum, shares with us her wonderful recipe for Amaretto cake. Can you just imagine that? Perfect for a nice dinner this summer, what do you think?

Thank you, my dear friend for your generosity!

Amaretto Cake

350º F (180ºC) 1 hour (ovens vary)
Christina’s oven 325 º for 45 minutes.

1 box cake mix (yellow or butter)
1 small instant vanilla pudding cake
4 eggs
¼ cup vegetable oil
½ cup water
½ cup Amaretto (Disaronno)
1 cup chopped almonds (slivered work too)

Combine ingredients well and pour in well greased and lightly floured bundt pan.

Glaze
¼ cup butter
½ cup water
¾ cup sugar
4 Tablespoons Amaretto (I always put more)

When cake is finished baking, before removing from pan, poke holes in top and pour ½ of glaze in the holes with a spoon. Then turn over onto a cake platter to remove from pan and repeat process of poking holes and putting in the glaze.

Note: Keep in an airtight cake pan for a few days before serving. The glaze should make the cake very moist — that’s what you want! Oh, it’s sooo good!

Enjoy,
Christina

p.s. This cake is a welcoming birthday and Christmas gift. I usually give it in a glass cake pan and tie it with a beautiful ribbon!

And just so you know… Christina recently won the latest giveaway we had for our facebook friends of Doctrines in the Kitchen; she is now enjoying The Pioneer Woman Cookbook! Please, give her a handclap! 🙂 (hey, be sure you “like” us on fb too!)

Thank you Christina, I am blessed to call you, my friend!

>A Prayer for my Husband and a Giveaway

>

He is my man, I love him and I praise God for giving me to him, and for giving him to me. His embrace is all I want, and being with him is a gift from the Lord.

Today I am specially grateful for my man, and for the privilege God has given me to intercede for him every day. He goes to the world every day,  and faces thorns and whistles and fights for us, while I wait in the quiet of our home, longing for his coming at night.

This is my prayer for my husband today. (adapted from Prayers of an Excellent Wife  -p.68- 69)

O thou Giving God,
Be gracious to my husband today, for to you do I cry all the day. Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up his soul.

Teach him Your way that he might walk in Your truth; unite his heart to fear Your Name. Turn to him and be gracious to him; give him strength, and save him.

O beloved, sing with me of the steadfast love of the LORD forever; with your mouth make know his faithfulness to all generations!

Glorious God,

Let your favor be upon my husband. Establish the work of his hands.

Be his dwelling place, Most High, and be his refuge, so that no evil shall be allowed to befall him. Command Your angels concerning him to guard him in all his ways. Because You hold fast to him in love, please deliver him; protect him because he knows Your Name.

When he calls to You answer him; be with him in trouble; rescue him and honor him. With long life satisfy him, and show him Your salvation. Satisfy him with your beauty.

In the name of my Lord and Mediator Jesus, whose name is above all other names,

Amen

>I will Arise and Go to My Father.

My Father!

(James Smith, “Daily Bible Readings”)

“My Father!” Jeremiah 3:4

This is a child’s cry!

It is full of meaning.

It is full of love.

It is full of comfort.

It is a title which the Lord loves to hear us use!

Lord, give us the Spirit of adoption this morning,
and let us see and feel, that we are Your children!

Believer!
To whom will you repair in trouble?
To whom will you look in difficulty?
To whom will you cry in danger?
From whom will you ask when in need?
Surely I hear you say, “My Father!”

Who speaks to you in the Bible?
Who tries you by His providence?
Who chastens you with His rod?
Who purifies and cleanses you?
Who humbles and reproves you?
Again you will say, “My Father!”

Who supports the world?
Who controls the nations?
Who chains up Satan?
Who comforts the believer?
Who pardons the backslider?
Again you reply, “My Father!”

Then I exhort you to . . .
trust your Father’s Word,
abide in your Father’s house,
expect from your Father’s hand,
and say in every trial:

“I will arise and go to my Father!”

May you find rest and comfort in the Father’s arms this Lord’s Day.
