About Becky Pliego

I am grateful because God, in His grace, called me out of darkness and into his admirable light. When I did not look for Him, He found me. When I was in a pit of sin, He rescued me. I am not walking this road alone, my family is always with me, and we love Him, because He loved us first.

>Endless Gifts Hidden in Everyday’s Life

>Now our routine is set; we have been doing school for a month now, we know the dance, the rhythm; we feel comfortable with our new classes, our new schedule; and here, in the center of our everyday’s  life, I have learned to stop and see, and ponder, and thank my God for all those gifts hidden behind our simple routine, our “normal” days. And I give thanks.

787. The light hut project, which is teaching us more than plants and seeds; it is helping us learn patience. Seeds need warmth, air and water to grow; we need patience.

788. Saying yes, to muffins.

789. Gathering my children in the afternoon and enjoy a nice talk and chocolate ice-cream with them.

790. The cellphone when you get lost in the streets.

791. My friend on the other end of the line patiently guiding me.

792. I am thankful I had a beautiful answer when someone asked me, “How do your children get along? Do they fight all day ?”No, I am so happy I answered “No, they truly love each other and enjoy being together”.

793. My children building a huge tent with pillows and blankets and sleeping in it to make their little sister happy, I am grateful because they are always patient with our little one.

794. Museums.

795. Two families, one nice afternoon, the sound of bagpipes.

796. Kelly, her patience to explain me one more thing!

797. Daddy and daughter and an old guitar. A new challenge, a new opportunity to create memories, a new way to be trained in patience.

798. Her little kisses, and soft hair. She is growing but I can still hold her.

799. Hear her say -every time we are ready to sit at the table- “I go besides Mommy”

800. My husband’s words.

   Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;

make known his deeds among the peoples!

  Sing to him; sing praises to him;

tell of all his wondrous works!

  Glory in his holy name;

let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!

 Seek the Lord and his strength;

seek his presence continually!

  Remember the wondrous works that he has done,

his miracles and the judgments he uttered…

What to do with Today’s Sermon?

 A picture taken by my beautiful daughter.

“Though we cannot repeat the good sermons we have heard;
yet if through grace, our hearts and ways are purified by them, they are not lost.

But let what I have said engage you who hear and learn the forms of sound words, to hold them fast, to imprint them in your minds and memories, that you may have them ready to you at all times, as occasion requires.
In order to do this, labour to understand them;
and let your knowledge be clear and distinct, and then you will be likely to retain it;
set every truth in its proper place, and then you will know what use to make of it.
Get your hearts duly affected with things, and abide and act under the power and influence of them;
and then you will remember them.
Be often repeating them to yourselves:
Mary kept the sayings of Christ, by pondering them in her heart (Luke 2:19).”
Matthew Henry, Family Religion.

Have a most blessed Lord’s Day, dear friends.

A Gift For You -A Good Book-

One of my favorite things to do, is to sit and enjoy a good cup of coffee with good friends. I love when my friends encourage me to good works, when they share how they win their battles, and how much they love their families.

Friends like these are a gift from God. I am forever grateful for each one of you!

Dear friends, I am glad to say that the winner of my first giveaway is:

I am very excited to read again the book, The Fruit of Her Hands, by Nancy Wilson, along with you. And if you are just jumping in, and would like to join us, read our reading schedule here.

I pray that God will help me be more sensitive to my husband and children’s needs as I read; I want to be the kind of woman that my children and husband call “blessed”.

Have a most joyous weekend!

Peace Under His Sun

We are journeying under His sun daily,  fighting a battle against our flesh, against the world, against the devil; we find a corner in our home and sit while everything is revolving around.

Eugène Delacroix: The Storm on the Sea of Galilee, 1854

Do you feel like you are losing your peace?

Peace, a beautiful word, a great longing of our soul, yet so misunderstood.  Peace, my dear friend, first of all cannot be found elsewhere but in Jesus; true peace is only found when we know that our sins have been washed away by His blood.

I am not talking here about that kind of peace that many “Christians” pursue nowadays; they live in sin, but they say that their soul is not troubled and they are at peace, so it should be ok. O, I have heard this, it breaks my heart to see people deceiving themselves and mocking God. This is not the peace I am talking here.

The perfect peace I am talking about is that which comes from God the Father to his own; is that peace which is a gift from God to those who honor and fear His name.

I am talking about the peace that perseveres and walks hand in hand with our trust in God’s Word.

“You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”

Isaiah 26: 3-4

Read again the Bible verse, read the promise…God is not only the one who gives us true peace, but He is the Keeper of our peace. He keeps us in perfect peace. He does that.

He keeps us in perfect peace, he we watch the news, and when our husband job is not going well, He keeps us in perfect peace when we have work to do and we are in that 28 days’ cycle,  we are kept in peace.

God is the one who keeps us in peace, but He asks one thing from us here, perseverance.

He asks us to stay our minds upon Him.

We must persevere in His Word; this the way to live in His perfect peace under His sun.

Let us abide in His word.

Let us read the Word, let us drink from it until our soul finds rest; let us memorize it, meditate upon it. This is the only way to pursue true peace.

We easily “lose our peace”, not because God has left us, but because we have not been persevering on the meditation of His Word.

Listen to the words of your mouth, listen to the thoughts of your mind. Is the Word of God reigning in you? Are you abiding in the Word?

 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.  If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15: 7-11 ESV

May your journey today be peaceful, full of Him, full of His Word.

What About Coffee, Cookies and a Good Book? -and a little gift-

There are some books  I like to read and re-read several times, big books and little books, all kinds of books;  Theology books (my favorite ones) and books about family, homeschooling, homemaking, and being a Christian woman are the ones I most enjoy.

I have been thinking that I want to read again this book, The Fruit of Her Hands. Respect and the Christian Woman, by Nancy Wilson. Every time I read it, I am blessed and  renewed. I love to go through all my notes and jot new ones.

This time, however, I want to invite you to read along and then bring your cup of coffee or tea, some cookies or scones (Petra…) and join the conversation every Tuesday (4 Tuesdays).

This would be our schedule:

Tuesday, October 12, Chapters 1 and 2
Tuesday, October 19, Chapters 3 and 4
Tuesday, October 26, Chapters 5 and 6
Tuesday, November 2, Chapters 7 and 8

If you don’t have the book, you can order it through Canon Press, Amazon, and Monergism. I am pretty sure that if you decide to order it this weekend, you will have plenty of time to read the first two chapters before October 12.

If you don’t have the book, and would like to join me, I will be giving away one book (only USA and Canada); just leave your name and contact information and I will let you know this coming Saturday who the winner is. (I feel so odd doing this, I have never done it before!) The invitation to the giveaway will be closed Friday, October 1st before midnight ET.

Well I must go now, have a most joyous day!
