About Becky Pliego

I am grateful because God, in His grace, called me out of darkness and into his admirable light. When I did not look for Him, He found me. When I was in a pit of sin, He rescued me. I am not walking this road alone, my family is always with me, and we love Him, because He loved us first.

>Celebrating the Incarnation -Part 1-

>

The Christmas lights are shining in our homes, in the mall; some main streets  have decorations hanging down from the roof tops already. Many people love this time of the year because peace and goodwill to all men are promised; but what is this season really about?

This is the time of the year when believers make a stop and meditate and celebrate the coming of our Savior; the Incarnation of our Lord. Those who are not believers and celebrate this season, doesn’t know that for them, if they do not repent, the coming of our Lord Jesus doesn’t bring peace but grief; it brings condemnation instead of life; tears instead of joy.

We can only celebrate with joy this time of the year if we have been saved by grace through the coming, the death, and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you have not repented from your sins, for a life lived in vanity; I urge you to listen, to see, to repent. Just as John the Baptist preached repentance before the manifestation of the Christ; so the Spirit urges you to repent from your sinful ways, before the coming of the Christ to your life.

The heart of Christmas; is not  celebrating “Jesus’ birthday”; it is the celebration of the Incarnation of God. The second person of the Trinity took the form of a man to do the most amazing thing ever: pursue sinners; rescue His enemies; adopt those whose names were written in the book of Life even before the foundation of the world, and did not know that yet. He came to give His life for fugitives like me, for slaves of sin, and children of the devil. This is what this season is about; it is not only about a baby born in  a manger, it goes beyond, it doesn’t stop there; it is about the Son of Man living a perfect, sinless life to die on a cross bearing our sins, the guilt of His own people, and the wrath of God on his whole being. It is about Him wrapped not in swaddling clothes, but in burial clothes in a tomb for three days and coming back to  life, because death could not hold Him back. It is about  Life conquering death; it is about Light piercing darkness; it is about peace made between God the Father and those who once were His enemies. It is about the forgiveness of our sins, and the glorious hope of seeing Him one day face to face in glory.

This is what the Incarnation is all about, God breaking the time-line in which we live and entering the time and space He created.

For centuries, the people of God heard promises of the Messiah; they lived in the shadows of what was to come. In Hebrews 1 we read about Jesus coming to fulfill those promises and to be the voice of God to us; we read “the Divine commentary by God himself on the Incarnation” (1)

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in  these last day he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things,through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. after making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” Hebrews 1:1-4 ESV

This is why we turn on lights, we want to celebrate that we now live in light; that we no longer live in shadows; Jesus has come to be the Light of the World and to speak to us, to draw us to the Father of lights!

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1: 17

We can celebrate this season fully only if we understand by God’s grace what does it mean  the Incarnation and only if  we have eyes to see who Jesus is.
Lord, open our eyes to see our sinful nature; give us the gift of repentance; open our eyes so we can  see You, and your wonderful grace reaching toward us this Advent season.

“To whom Christ came. Was it to his friends? No; he came to sinful man. Man that had defaced his image, and abused his love; man who was turned rebel; yet he came to man, resolving to conquer obstinacy with kindness.”  Thomas Watson, A Body of Divinity

>Borrowed Words -From the Valley of Vision-

>

Today I am thankful for the privileges that I have in Christ.

O Lord God,Teach me to know that grace precedes, accompanies, and follows
my salvation,
that it sustains the redeemed soul,
that no one link of its chain can never break.
From Calvary’s cross wave upon wave of grace reaches me,
deals with my sin,
washes me clean,
renews my heart,
strengthens my will,
draws out my affection,
kindles a flame in my soul,
rules through my inner man,
consecrates my every thought, word, work,
teaches me thy immeasurable love.
How great are my privileges in Jesus Christ!
Without Him i stand off, a stranger, an outcast;
In Him I draw near and touch his kingly scepter.
Without Him I dare not  lift up my guilty eyes;
In Him I gaze upon my Father- God and friend.
Without Him I hide my lips in trembling shame;
in Him I open my mouth in petition and praise.
Without Him all is wrath and consuming fire;
In Him is all love, and the repose of my soul.
Without Him is gaping hell below me, and eternal anguish;
in Him its gates are barred to me by His precious blood.
Without Him darkness spreads its horrors in front;
in Him an eternity of glory is my boundless horizon.
Without Him all within me is terror and dismay,
in Him every accusation is charmed into joy and peace.
Without Him all things external call for my condemnation;
in Him they minister to my comfort,
and are to be enjoyed with thanksgiving.
Praise be to Thee for Grace,
and for the unspeakable gift of Jesus.
Amen

>The Holiness of God – Chapter Seven-

>I am a homemaker, so as you can imagine, today I am busy preparing a feast to celebrate His goodness, but I just don’t want to skip this post; the book, the group, the conversation has been so rich.

Job Confessing His Presumption to God Who Answers from the Whirlwind; William Blake c. 1804

On this chapter Dr. Sproul takes us to see four different characters in the Bible; Jacob, Job, Habakkuk, and Saul; all of them wrestled with God. God overcame them and they found peace; all of them had questions to ask; all of them dared to raise their voices with questions, none of them got answers, instead they were summoned by God; He asked them some other questions and they could not answer.

I love the way Sproul talks about Job. Once Job found out that he did not have the answers to God’s questions and that God was not answering his questions, what happened?

” …Job was satisfied. even though God gave no answers, Job’s questions were put to rest.He received a higher answer than any direct reply could have provided. God answered Job’s questions not with words but with Himself. As soon as Job saw who God is, Job was satisfied. Seeing the manifestation of God was all that he needed. He was able to leave the details in God’s hands. Once God himself was no longer shrouded in mystery, Job was able to live comfortably with a few unanswered questions. When God appeared, Job was so busy repenting that he did not have time for further challenges. His rage was directed to himself: ‘I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes'”

Maybe questions have already come to your heart.

Maybe they will come in the near future.

What do we do with those questions?

Do we raise our fists trying to fight against God?

I just read, with tears,  the words of a young man who grew up in a an Evangelical Church, he tweeted: “I have decided to be an atheist because I have many questions and God has too many secrets”

Let our words be few; lest He turns towards us not to give us answers but to ask us questions which we will not be able to answer.

It is He who asks.

It is us who must learn to be quiet and be satisfied with the silence; It is us who must learn to trust in His Sovereign hand orchestrating every event in our lives, and so live comfortably with few unanswered questions.

We have heard people say that they are keeping a journal with many questions they plan to ask God one day in Heaven, let me share with you these words that  Persis, who has been tried by fire  once wrote:

“I am still pondering God’s greatness in His creation. I have so many questions that I would like to ask the Lord about the universe, creation, the fall of man… But when I’m in heaven, I wonder if I will even remember them. At that time, being in the presence of God will be enough. I’m thankful that I can look forward to that day.”

Let this words be our comfort, no matter how big our questions might be, if we fear the Lord, we should know that He is beyond and above all those questions we have, and one day, when we see Him face to face, all those questions will be like vapor, like shadows; His glory will be sufficient, and we will be in peace.

*****

Today I am grateful, because even though God is too wonderful for me to comprehend, and His holiness is beyond my reach, He has opened my eyes to see a glimpse of His glory and has given me the promise that I will behold Him face to face one day, and I will be satisfied, I will long for nothing no more.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!
