>Let Your Light Shine! by John MacDuff

>

let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5: 16

There are many things connected with the Christian’s
pathway—which worldlings cannot comprehend. They
know nothing of the high and hidden walks of spiritual
experience. What is said of the workings of the divine
life in the soul—is regarded by them as foolishness
and fanaticism.
Its internal principles,
its constraining motives and impulses,
its heavenly aspirations,
its rapturous bliss, and
its agonizing struggles—are things which
these strangers cannot comprehend!
But still, there is much which they are able to
understand—such as . . .
whatever is consistent in character;
whatever is honest and straightforward between men;
whatever is kind and compassionate in behavior;
whatever is forbearing and forgiving under insults
and injuries.
Such features, when unostentatiously exhibited—excite
their attention, and, generally, call forth their praise. The
manner in which the ordinary duties of life are discharged,
is something so tangible—that it lies within the province of
their own observation. These things they can understand;
and it is of the highest importance that all who profess to
be Christians, should be distinguished by an exhibition of
these practical fruits of righteousness..
May the Lord strengthen you with all might, according to
His glorious power—”that you may live a life worthy of the
Lord and may please Him in every way—bearing fruit in
every good work, growing in the knowledge of God!”

Have a most blessed Lord’s Day.

Praying the Psalms- Psalm 93-

b412b-prayingthepsalmsbuttonPsalm 93

The LORD Reigns
The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty;
the LORD is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
Your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.
The floods have lifted up, O LORD,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring.
Mightier than the thunders of many waters,
mightier than the waves of the sea,
the LORD on high is mighty!
Your decrees are very trustworthy;
holiness befits your house,
O LORD, forevermore.

 *****************************

O God, You are Divine, You are Omnipotent,
Yours is the world in which I walk,
You reign today over all,
over every circumstance,
over all my world;
You reign indeed.
I may be confused and tempted to doubt,
but You never move,
You always reign.
You are my King, robed in Majesty,
with your strength as your belt.
Everything is under your Sovereign care;
Your decrees are always fulfilled,
by men and nature,
by seas and earth.
The wind never blows against a leaf
without Your permission.
You are King.
You are my Sovereign King.
From everlasting my times are in your hands,
my plans and desires,
the longings of my heart,
nothing escapes from Your Sovereign will.
Mightier You are, O LORD,
than all the storms,
than all my fears,
than all my sins.
Your voice is Mightier than Satan’s accusations,
Your Word is Mighty to save
even a sinful woman like me.
Your Word is a mighty Sword
that cuts into my soul
and changes
my nature.
Lord, You are Mighty
and faithful to save your own.
Lord, you are Mighty
and faithful to preserve your own
even through terrible storms,
and passages of death,
and valleys of silence.
Lord, let my heart never forget
that Your decrees are very trustworthy,
that holiness befits your house,
O LORD, forevermore.

>Sunday’s Psalm -Psalm 121-

>

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.

Amen

>A Prayer in the Evening Before the Lord’s Day

>

“Now give us to remember that tomorrow is the sabbath of the LORD, and that it is a high day, holy of the Lord and honourable, and give us grace to sanctify us ourselves, that tomorrow the Lord may do wonders among us; and to mind the work of our preparation, now the sabbath draws on.
When thous sawest every thing that thou hadst made in six days, behold all was very good, but in many things we have all offended. O that by repentance and faith in Christ’s blood, we may wash not only our feet, but also our hands, and our head, and our heart, ans so may compass thine altar, O Lord.
Now give us to rest from all our own works, and to leave all our worldly cares at the bottom of the hill, while we go up to the mount to worship God, and to return again to them”

Matthew Henry, A Method for Prayer

May the Lord bless you tonight as you prepare your heart for the Lord’s day!

A Prayer On The Morning of the Lord’s Day (you can read it here)

>Praying What Jesus Asked Us to Pray

>

Lord, I have neglected praying this prayer;
please remind me,
through your Holy Spirit to ask you,
Lord of the Harvest, to send laborers into your harvest.
And I pray  today  for all the laborers
that are already in the fields,
weary and tired,
that you may look at them,
and bless them,
and renew their strength and joy;
remind them that they have been put there to the defense of the gospel.
Lord, I ask you that just as you caused the Philippians,
to grow more confident in you through
the trials and example of Paul,
I ask you, that you will make me
more bold to speak the word without fear,
like Paul and all of those saints that today are
being persecuted  and rejoice, no matter what,
because the gospel is advancing.
This I pray  in the name
of my Saviour and King,
Jesus Christ.
Amen

Praying the Psalms- Psalm 90-

Psalm 90

BOOK FOUR

From Everlasting to Everlasting

A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.

1. Lord, you have been our dwelling place
in all generations.
Lord, remembering how your hand has been upon us all these years
should make me raise today full of faith,
knowing that YOU, You the mighty One has been our dwelling place all these years.
Where else can I be secure?
Where else but in your  dwelling place.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
You never fail God, You never change.
You, my dwelling place never move.
You are the same for ever and ever;
I praise You for your immutability today!

3 You return man to dust
and say, “Return, O children of man!”
You said, “Return…”
You called me by name and I could resist
Your irresistible Grace.
4 For a thousand years in your sight
are but as yesterday when it is past,
or as a watch in the night.

5You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,
like grass that is renewed in the morning:
6 in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
in the evening it fades and withers.

Lord, you are not bound to time,
the brevity of my life is always in contrast with Your Eternal Being.
Teach me, O teach me, please,
to live beyond this timeline that frames my days,
help me remember that the squares in the calendar
should not rule my life;
help me live with my heart fixed on eternity…

7 For we are brought to an end by your anger;
by your wrath we are dismayed.
8 You have set our iniquities before you,
our secret sins in the light of your presence.
9 For all our days pass away under your wrath;
we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10 The years of our life are seventy,
or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span is but toil and trouble;
they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
and your wrath according to the fear of you?
Father, I bow my head now to repent for all my sins;
Forgive me for I live at times without considering Your Word;
I toil and trouble and do not take pauses to pray to You.
Forgive all those secrets sins that cannot remain hidden.
Thank you because Your Word points to my sin,
and your Holy Spirit leads me to repentance.
Thank you, Father.
12 So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 Return, O LORD! How long?
Have pity on your servants!
Yes, O yes, Lord .
Teach me to number my days;
not to live a busy life,
not to be able to say,
“I have lived well today”
but to get a heart of wisdom;
a heart who fears You;
a heart full of your Word.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.
Today I come to drink at your feet,
to eat from your hand;
satisfy my souls’ deepest needs…
Let Your love be all I long for;
be your love the joy of my life.
16 Let your work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!
Father, now I pray,  let your work, your glorious,
transforming power that is
working in me, be known in my family;
change me more into your image that they may  be able to see
those changes,
day by day,
morning after morning.
Let your favor be upon us,
establish the work of your hands upon us, your saints;
yes, establish the work of your hands!
In Jesus’ name, I pray today,
Amen
