>The Holiness of God -Chapter One-

>

I am joining again a great group of readers at Challies. It has been a joy get to know some great bloggers, thinkers and God lovers through this “reading- along” group; so if you are visiting this place  from Challies, please leave a comment; I would love to “meet” you!

This time the book we are reading is The Holiness of God by R.C Sproul, a great pick, a book already known as a classic in the Reformed faith. Today we are talking only about chapter one.

Chapter One. The Holy Grail

One thing, that is it, only one thing I will share of this chapter that I do not want to forget never. One thing in chapter one that every one needs to know.

We all need a specific moment in our lives, a “life transforming” moment:

“Being alone with God. A Holy God. An awesome God. A God who could fill our lives with terror in one second and with peace the next”

This is the way to eternal life. Meeting alone with a Holy God, spiritually naked, on our knees, in awe and knowing  that we are not worthy of Him.

Living a moment like this changes our eternal life. Meeting alone with a Holy God in the quietness is what we need in order to live.

Have you been alone with God; a Holy God?

While In The Quietness…

The words sometimes do not find their way through the pen neither through the keyboard, sometimes you just find out that the best thing to do is remain quiet and wait.

I am learning to be quiet.

Have you been there?

I have been there and while in the quietness, while in the Word, while in prayer, I have been learning.

What do you do when you face conflict and your eyes can’t see clearly? You have several options:

You can cry bitterly, scream or even hurt the other person. You can call your “best friend” and tell her about it and be mad and start a “gossip party”. You can keep it inside of you, and nothing more, just keep the terible feelings inside of you and water the seed of resentment day by day, thought after thought until your heart aches and even your body breaks out.

But there are more options, you can pray. But wait… not any prayer, beware of those prayers that are  self-centered; all those prayers in which you call yourself the victim and you keep acussing the other person. Beware of trusting in your own righteousness.

Pray to the Father, but ask him to search inside of YOU!

Ask Him to change YOU!

Ask Him to use this situation to help YOU grow into a godly woman!

Every situation is meant to help us in our sanctification and we can take those opportunities and use them to mortify the sin in us.

“Give me special grace to fit me for special services, and keep me calm and resigned at all times, humble, solemn, mortified, and conformed to thy will”

Flowers for You, so that You Will be Reminded…

Walking through this market was a joy. The smell of fresh lavender and all the bright hues of so many flowers, were a feast for any one passing by.

Enjoy the sight and walk with me through the flower’s  market in Amsterdam.

We see this beauty and yet, we still worry… why?

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,  yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:25-34 ESV

May you find in His word faith for today; just look at the flowers and be reminded…

When Light Meets Daily Life

A Repost from the archives.

This week I will be journeying with my friend Claire B.
I just love her photography and the project she has pursued this year
entitled,365 light project.

I will be writing on how light meets my daily life using her art.

Shopping carts lined up to be used, dirty wheels, and shiny metal, all look the same, all there.
A mom comes and grabs one, her hands are holding the shopping list, again.
Again, the toilet paper, and the cleaner, the shampoo, and the toothpaste, yes, again
There is no milk, or juice in the fridge and again rushing and running, dragging her feet,
she is here, again.
The wheel is not working, she needs to push harder.
Her heart is sinking, again; and again she whispers,
“Again, again, routine again.
Never ending, always in a circle “
The thoughts of the day, the prayers unsaid, the lump on her throat, again.
My prayer is for you today, my Christian friend;
if it is you pushing hard the broken wheels,
trying hard to manage your day again
that you may stop today to see His light.
I have been learning this,
God meets me in my daily life.
His light shines on me as I go into my chores, as I push the cart.

Is it useful to have my theology right, my doctrines right, if I can not see His light meeting me in my
daily life?
I am still learning.
Let your light, O God, shine on me!
Let me learn again, that it is for You that I come and go.
Forgive me again, for living a life without joy.
Remind me, that it is in my daily journey, that I walk towards heaven.
Daily life matters, shine on me,
O Lord, again!

My first post in this blog, was just about this, Rejoicing in Our Daily Tasks.

Thoughts for Wives

A friend of mine just posted this on her fb profile:

“I had to make that step (leaving fb) to get my priorities straight and to spend more time with my hubby who was going to bed alone too much lately….while I was on facebook…..ouch!…”

And Jamie also reminded us of this when she says,

“Because I remember as a young, engaged woman the anticipation that I felt, knowing that one day soon I would be able to go to bed with the man I loved each night and wake up with him each morning.  Oh, how I looked forward to that!  I dreamed of the intimate conversations we’d have, heads on our pillows, smiling and laughing as we reminisced about the day’s happenings.  I could hardly wait for those evenings!

And so, still today (nearly 11 years later!), I try to continue to fan that same flame and look forward to our quiet time together in the evenings…We spend a few solo minutes reading a chapter in a book or checking emails, maybe posting a quick note to the blog or facebook, but then I remember…

We need our special “pillow talk” time together.  And I still look forward to going to bed with the man I love every night and waking up with him each morning!”

I have to say that lately I have been guilty of this, either checking my fb or writing a post is robbing me of this special “pillow talk” with the one I love.

So here I am,  following the example of other godly women, I will not be checking my fb at nights and I will journal here just as time permits.

My priorities should be straight at all times, and in doing so, I glorify my God, and honor my man.

An invitation, if you know someone who speaks Spanish, please refer them to our Spanish blog, Delicias A Tu Diestra Para Siempre, we (my sister and I) are posting an important series on what it means to be a modest woman.

P.S. Just in case you are wondering why I chose such a picture on this post, let me tell you…  I used this picture because it reminds of a time my husband and I spent together, and because I needed to remind myself that I  must build bridges of love between us.

Living a Simple Life

It was a windy, sunny day, just  perfect. We stood on the top of a pyramid built around 700 BC, and we enjoyed the view. My little girl picked some wild flowers, while  the rest climbed a tree.

We lived a simple day…

When simple, beautiful days like this one happen, I often think on how we started it, and how we continued through it.

I woke up early had my devotions, made breakfast, {still thinking about the Bible verses I read}, had coffee and a biscotti, took the book we are reading at the family table. We read, we talked about it, we prayed.

And we stood up, and off we went.

How we start our day means a lot, but that is not all.

My prayer lately has been, “Lord, as I leave my quiet morning and devotions at the family table, help me live a life of prayer; let all I do bring glory to your name; let all my words be spoken with the certainty that you hear me always, let me not do my labor without consciously living  for you. I am so prone to wander”

Just as the wind blows over our faces, let us be aware of your presence all day long, let us draw near to you, O Lord.

But for me it is good to be near God
Psalm 73: 28

How can we draw near to Him all day every day?

How can we enjoy His presence all day and not be terrified by it?

It is because of Jesus, our Mediator. Jesus opened the way for us to the Kingdom of Heaven through His incarnation, through His death, through His resurrection.

Peace, true peace has a price, and Jesus paid for it with His blood. (Col 1:20)

How can I not love my Saviour?

How can I not long to draw nearer to Him everyday?

If I can enjoy simple days like this one, is because of His grace.
